“I must have flowers, always, and always.” -Claude Monet

Hi! My name is Jessica and I own little birdie, a specialty cut flower farm located in Williamsburg, Kentucky. For 16 years, I was a 5-12 Reading and Social Studies teacher. While my work as a teacher was often rewarding, I lived for my summers off so that I could spend time in my perennial gardens around my home, watching the birds and butterflies it brought in and filling my home with fresh cut flowers. Many summers I also grew a large vegetable garden and enjoyed canning and cooking with freshly harvested ingredients. In 2017, after a few rough years in my personal and professional life, I made the decision to leave the classroom. After two years without a job, I realized that I needed something to do to keep me busy. So, I took my love of growing flowers and opened a small cut flower farm at my home. Until that time, I had mostly grown perennial flowers rather than annuals and I knew nothing about running my own business. So, there was definitely a learning curve. I consider myself a lifelong learner and have mostly enjoyed doing the research and learning from my mistakes. There has been a lot of sweat, bugs, some disease, wasted money, and definitely some disappointment along the way. But, honestly, harvesting buckets of beautiful blooms at sunset in the peak of the season, creating bouquets from what looks best that day, and seeing the smiles on my customers faces when I deliver a bouquet makes it all worth it. I truly find peace and happiness in my flowers, and it is a dream come true for me to be able to share them with you.
